MarineDepot.com Joins Lincoln Training Centers Efforts to Help Adults with Disabilities

Garden Grove, CA (PRWEB) December 17, 2012

Internet retailer MarineDepot.com announced today they have partnered with Lincoln Training Center to foster independence and improve the quality of life for individuals with disadvantages or developmental disabilities.

Lincoln Training Center will begin placing workers at the popular online aquarium supply stores corporate headquarters today. Three workers and a job coach are set to replace MarineDepot.coms janitorial staff and take over custodial duties in 2013. The goals are so adults with disabilities can learn job skills, gain confidence and achieve success in the workplace. Each individual earns a paycheck, which leads to self-esteem and independence.

Our company believes we should give back and provide opportunities for people in the community that may not have the same opportunities we do, said David King, Chief Operating Officer for MarineDepot.com. Lincoln Training Center is widely recognized as a leader in teaching adults with disabilities the skills they need to obtain employment and gain independence, so they were a natural choice for us to partner with.

Lincoln Training Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, was founded in 1964 by a group of parents for the purpose of providing meaningful employment for adults with disabilities. Today, Lincoln Training Center is headquartered in a 32,000 square-foot facility in South El Monte. Their Production Services Department provides support to more than 500 adults with disabilities and offers packaging, sorting, weighing, assembly, disassembly, labeling, laminating, collating, shrink wrapping and light manufacturing services. Offsite, their Supported Employment program places workers into community job settings, such as performing custodial work at MarineDepot.com, and currently partners with over 50 companies throughout California.

We are very proud to be partnering with MarineDepot.com and appreciate the jobs they are creating for adults with disabilities. They see the value in hiring people with disabilities and recognize their capabilities, said Casey Richards, Director of Community Services for Lincoln Training Center.

Lincoln Training Centers focus is providing vocational programming for individuals with disabilities who may not be able to work competitively in the community, or who may need assistance in maintaining competitive employment. Workers are paid for their services according to their participation and productivity, and receive vacation pay, bonuses and workers compensation benefits.

This is not only an opportunity for us to help others grow, King said. We see this as a way to cultivate character in our own staff by inspiring them to give back and make a difference whenever possible.
